Director Corporate Accounting - Inventory & Fixed Assets (U.S. GAAP)

Location: Hybrid, Northfield, Illinois, United States

Salary: $177,000–$266,000 annually; bonus and/or incentive eligible.

What you will do

• Lead the U.S. Inventory, Product Costing, and Fixed Assets accounting teams, including hiring, performance management, development, resource planning, and management through multiple managers.
• Oversee accounting, reporting, governance, and close processes for inventory, product costing, and fixed assets, including journal entries, reconciliations, reserves, standard costs, valuation, capital expenditures, depreciation, and asset disposals.
• Ensure consistent global accounting practices, effective internal controls, U.S. GAAP compliance, SOX compliance, and accurate financial reporting.
• Lead process improvements, system implementations, integrations, policy development, and business integration initiatives.
• Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Divisions, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Internal Controls, and auditors.
• Analyze results and accounting judgments, remediate control gaps, develop training, and drive improvements in accuracy, efficiency, and risk management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business and a CPA certification.
• At least 8 years of accounting experience focused on U.S. GAAP accounting, reporting, and analysis, including significant experience with inventory, product costing, and fixed assets.
• At least 4 years of direct people-management experience, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing employees, plus coaching and leading other people managers.
• Experience in a large, multinational company with complex operations and cross-functional accounting processes.
• Extensive internal controls and SOX experience, including remediation and change management.
• Broad U.S. GAAP expertise and advanced knowledge of accounting practices, controls, systems, and process optimization.
• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to change, and communicate across organizational levels.
• Proven success leading cross-functional projects, driving change, and serving as a trusted business partner.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including IF and SUMIF(S), index/match, and pivot tables.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Accounting or an MBA.
• Previous corporate or divisional controller experience and experience managing an offshore or global team.
• SAP, AS400, and QAD experience; SAP and system implementation experience is strongly preferred.
• Consolidation system experience such as Oracle EPM Cloud.
• IFRS experience.
