Safety Director (Manufacturing)

Location: On-site in Edgewood and Brentwood, New York, with support for other U.S. locations as needed. Day shift, Monday–Friday; occasional travel between Edgewood campus locations and up to 10% travel. On-call support may include 24x7 coverage, with evening and weekend work as needed.

Salary: $60–$70 per hour.

What you will do

• Lead Safety Committees and work with leaders across production facilities to identify hazards, prioritize corrective actions, and improve safety performance.
• Direct responses to emergencies, accidents, injuries, and near-misses; investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Conduct safety and environmental health audits of buildings, equipment, tools, and working conditions, and follow findings through resolution.
• Maintain safety policies, written programs, procedures, and guidelines in compliance with OSHA, state, and applicable environmental regulations.
• Manage regulatory inquiries, environmental permits, reporting, recordkeeping, hazardous waste, spills, and production by-products with Facilities and external stakeholders.
• Deploy and improve the safety software platform, reporting processes, workers’ compensation administration, ergonomic improvements, loss control measures, and consistent corporate safety standards.

Requirements

• Post-secondary education.
• At least 5 years of related safety experience, including safety training development and delivery.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable local and state safety and health regulations.
• Direct safety experience in a general industry or manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, prioritization, written communication, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead meetings and training sessions.
• Ability to build effective working relationships across diverse teams and leadership levels.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Ability to carry a cell phone and provide on-call support as required.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Environmental Health Science, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field.
• Advanced degree.
• Certified Safety Professional or Associate Safety Professional certification issued by the BCSP.
• At least 8 years of manufacturing experience.
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry course completion.
• First Aid, CPR, and emergency medical response training or certification.
