Staff Software Engineer, Identity Platform

Location: United States — hybrid, with the option to work fully remotely or from the nearest Moonbase.

What you will do

• Define the technical strategy, architecture and delivery sequence for a unified identity and KYC platform.
• Establish boundaries between identity, authentication, verification, compliance and product-specific onboarding across ramps, cards, virtual accounts and enterprise products.
• Design the customer identity lifecycle, including creation, verification, linking, updates, consent and deletion.
• Build secure public-facing APIs and SDKs, integrate KYC and identity-verification providers, and provide stable contracts, versioning and migration paths.
• Design secure storage, access, sharing, authorization, auditability, data residency, retention and deletion for sensitive identity data.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Security, Privacy, Legal and Compliance while operating production systems and improving observability and failure handling.

Requirements

• Production experience building or owning identity, KYC, authentication or customer-data infrastructure used across multiple products.
• Experience defining shared platform architecture and technical foundations rather than only delivering a single onboarding or login experience.
• Experience building public APIs and SDKs for external developers, including stability, versioning, documentation and backward compatibility.
• Understanding of the security, privacy and operational requirements for storing and processing identity information.
• Ability to reason across data models, verification providers, product workflows, compliance requirements and failure modes.
• Experience shaping an ambiguous, initially unsolved problem into a technical direction and aligning multiple teams around it.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, reviewing and operating production systems.

Nice to have

• Identity or KYC infrastructure experience in payments, fintech, banking or another regulated environment.
• Experience with reusable verified identity, identity vaults or portable customer profiles.
• Experience with OAuth, OIDC, WebAuthn, passkeys, session management or account recovery.
• Experience building systems for consent, data residency, privacy requests and audit trails.
• Experience working with multiple KYC, KYB or identity-verification providers.
• Experience building developer platforms for external partners.
• Familiarity with cryptocurrency, wallets or digital-asset products.
• Familiarity with TypeScript, Node.js, GCP, PostgreSQL, Redis and Kubernetes.
