Senior Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Cards)

Location: Remote within the United States. Most roles can be performed remotely within the country of employment; new hires attend an in-person onboarding experience.

Base pay: $265,000–$325,000 per year in CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $236,000–$296,000 per year in other U.S. states.

What you will do

• Define the technical direction, long-term roadmap, and strategic initiatives for Cards.
• Lead the use of AI to accelerate development while maintaining high quality standards.
• Develop technical strategy across full-stack teams and partner with engineering and business stakeholders.
• Architect platforms, tools, and technologies that support consistency, scalability, and reliability.
• Drive ownership, accountability, efficiency, and technical excellence across teams.
• Mentor engineers and help them grow to Staff level.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience working across the stack and driving backend architectural improvements.
• Experience leading change across large engineering organizations and coordinating multiple engineering teams.
• Track record of leading critical, company-wide projects and implementing technical strategies that improve reliability and responsiveness.
• Strong collaboration, project management, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
• Ownership mindset and experience mentoring and developing engineers.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience with React Native, JavaScript, or Kotlin.
• Experience staying current with FinTech industry developments.
