Staff Engineer - Brokerage Services (AI)

Location: City of London, United Kingdom; hybrid work with three days in the office.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain internal tooling that embeds AI into coding, test generation, deployments, defect triage, and engineering workflows.
• Build observability into AI-assisted pipelines and automate manual coding, testing, and release steps so they can run largely unattended.
• Evaluate, pilot, and roll out LLM-based developer tools, integrating them safely with Jira, Confluence, GitLab, and CI/CD environments.
• Partner with product, testing, project management, security, and compliance functions to deliver AI-assisted engineering capabilities.
• Define responsible AI standards covering data handling, prompt hygiene, and production and customer-data guardrails.
• Mentor engineers across Brokerage Services, drive AI adoption, and track metrics including cycle time, defect escape rate, test coverage, and delivery turnaround.

Requirements

• Significant experience as a senior or staff-level engineer, with a track record that other engineers can vouch for.
• Deep, hands-on expertise across a backend service ecosystem, including shared service architecture design and ownership, in a mature Java or comparable backend environment at scale.
• Deep fluency in test-driven development and pair programming.
• Full-lifecycle ownership of systems from design and implementation through deployment and production support, including carrying the pager.
• Strong motivation to remove manual steps through aggressive automation.
• Experience evaluating or building with LLM-based developer tools in a real engineering environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with MCP, agentic tooling, or Spec Driven Development.
• Familiarity with the Atlassian ecosystem, including Jira and Confluence, and its APIs.
• Experience in financial services, trading platforms, or another regulated, high-reliability environment.
