Director of Engineering, Builder Infrastructure (AI)

Location: Krakow, Poland; hybrid model with onsite work Tuesday through Thursday each week, with additional onsite attendance possible based on business needs.

Base salary: zł 576,000–648,000 per annum, plus equity and other compensation components.

What you will do

• Define and deliver the multi-year strategy for Builder Infrastructure across cloud engineering, container platforms, and infrastructure security.
• Design team boundaries, ownership models, and workforce plans across Krakow and the US.
• Lead and develop engineering managers and senior engineers, including succession and organizational capability planning.
• Run infrastructure as a product through self-service paved roads, published APIs, automation, and measurable adoption, lead time, and toil reduction.
• Set the direction for AI-operated infrastructure and own platform security, identity, hardened images, patching, and rollout practices.
• Manage trade-offs across reliability, security, cost, delivery speed, technical debt, and infrastructure unit economics while partnering with executive and cross-domain leaders.

Requirements

• Practical experience and a clear point of view on how AI agents change infrastructure operations and the teams that run them.
• Experience leading multiple infrastructure or platform teams through engineering managers, ideally across countries and time zones.
• A track record of setting and delivering a multi-year infrastructure strategy that changed how an engineering organization builds and ships.
• Experience designing engineering organizations, including team boundaries, headcount planning across geographies, and engineering management quality.
• Experience scaling infrastructure ahead of business growth through automation, self-service, and API-driven control planes with sublinear headcount growth.
• Strong depth across cloud, container, and identity systems, including large-scale design review and architectural evolution.
• Experience running infrastructure in a regulated environment with security and compliance treated as design constraints from the start.
• Credibility with executives up to the C-suite and ability to translate infrastructure risk, cost, and investment into business terms.
• Experience with agentic infrastructure operations, including LLM agents, MCP integrations, guardrails, audit trails, and approval flows.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud foundations; multi-account governance; infrastructure as code; API-driven control planes; and multi-region and edge networking.
• Experience with Kubernetes fleet management, multi-cluster operations, lifecycle and upgrades, autoscaling, and GitOps delivery.
• Experience with Istio service mesh, including ambient mode, traffic management, mTLS, and zero-trust service-to-service communication.
• Experience with organization-scale identity systems, IAM, workload identity, just-in-time access, and governance of non-human and agent identities.
• Experience with image and supply chain security, including golden image pipelines, CIS hardening, SBOMs, image signing, SLSA, and automated staged patch rollouts.
• Experience with policy as code and admission control using OPA Gatekeeper or Kyverno, plus FinOps unit economics and PCI DSS and SOC 2 compliance frameworks.
