Firmware Engineer (ASIC)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States

Salary: $180,000–$230,000 per year; base pay for this role in California.

What you will do

• Define, implement, and evolve firmware orchestrating GPU execution, scheduling, context management, and system-level control.
• Collaborate with architecture, RTL design, verification, validation, and systems software teams on firmware requirements and interfaces.
• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware, boot software, and device drivers for high-speed silicon, memory, interconnect, and power/thermal subsystems.
• Drive root-cause analysis across laboratory bring-up, qualification, manufacturing, and field-return scenarios.
• Provide technical leadership through mentoring, design reviews, code reviews, and debugging support.
• Coordinate cross-geography teams and drive program execution through product delivery.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in low-level microcontroller firmware development.
• Deep understanding of interrupt schemes, multithreading, DMA, memory management, and resource-constrained embedded environments.
• Solid understanding of low-level software, device drivers, hardware interfaces, and system bring-up.
• Proven track record of leading complex projects from concept to completion.
• Experience with platform initialization and low-level peripheral drivers, including PCIe, I2C, SPI, UART, and GPIO.
• Experience with memory management, scheduling, interrupts, and multithreading.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Experience with custom ASIC or SoC pre-silicon verification and post-silicon bring-up.
• Professional attitude, ability to prioritize multiple changing tasks, preparation for customer and vendor meetings, and ability to work with minimal guidance and supervision.
• Proven track record of leading complex projects from concept to completion.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including mentoring engineers, influencing technical decisions, and collaborating within cross-functional global teams.
