Firmware Engineer (Embedded Systems)

Expected base pay: $166,520–$249,500 per annum

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware, boot software, device drivers, and platform initialization software for networking hardware.
• Support board and system bring-up by debugging prototype hardware and firmware interactions with hardware, silicon, validation, and systems software teams.
• Develop platform management controller firmware, remote monitoring and control interfaces, and low-level communication interfaces for optical modules and board controllers.
• Implement secure firmware update mechanisms, including signed images, verified boot, recovery, remote management APIs, and independently updatable firmware components.
• Develop embedded telemetry firmware for high-frequency system metrics and integrate firmware with manufacturing test processes.
• Build automated firmware build, test, and release infrastructure while identifying and mitigating platform integration risks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 10–15 years of professional experience, or a related master’s degree/PhD with 5–10 years of experience.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded firmware and low-level driver development, plus Python or Bash scripting for automation.
• Experience developing boot and platform initialization firmware for embedded systems, embedded operating systems, low-level drivers, and memory-mapped hardware interfaces.
• Understanding of high-speed system architecture, signal interfaces, peripheral communication protocols, platform management controllers, and remote system management interfaces.
• Hands-on experience using lab-based debug equipment to isolate firmware and hardware interaction issues.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, debugging, accountability, and execution skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with networking silicon platforms from major industry vendors.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated firmware test infrastructure.
