Principal System Diagnostics Engineer (Networking Hardware)

Expected base pay: $150,680–$225,700 per annum

What you will do

• Design low-level diagnostic software, test suites, APIs, automated testing frameworks, and scripts for network switch hardware.
• Develop validation plans for ASICs, high-speed SerDes, DDR/HBM memory interfaces, PCIe buses, power management, and thermal control systems.
• Support board bring-up, debug early prototype hardware, and isolate hardware versus software root causes using laboratory equipment.
• Deliver diagnostic coverage for factory manufacturing lines and analyze metrics and failure data.
• Define diagnostic requirements and hardware-testability hooks with Hardware Engineering, ASIC Design, Embedded Firmware, and Network OS teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive mitigation of hardware-testability and production-readiness risks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 10–15 years of relevant experience, or a related master’s degree with 5–10 years of experience.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded or low-level software development and Python or Bash for automation.
• Knowledge of switch architecture, signal integrity, SerDes, I2C, SPI, MDIO, PCIe, peripheral management, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and Layer 2/3 switching.
• Experience with Linux development, drivers, kernel concepts, memory mapping, CI/CD, and automated test infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
• Knowledge of U-Boot, ONIE, optical transceivers, BMC/OpenBMC, PDU, IPMI, or Redfish; experience with ODM/JDM or contract manufacturing partners.

Nice to have

• Experience with networking ASICs or switch silicon from Broadcom, hirify.global, or Intel Barefoot.
