Senior Software Engineer: Back-end (AI)

Location: Remote USA; occasional department onsites and company events are required.

Salary: $125,000–$165,000 per year plus variable compensation, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and build high-throughput backend services, core platform APIs, and distributed data stores for a multi-tenant GRC platform.
• Develop and maintain cloud-native services using Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, AWS, PostgreSQL, Neo4j, Redis, and RabbitMQ.
• Write unit, integration, and service-level tests and partner with DevOps on CI/CD and cloud infrastructure.
• Monitor metrics, traces, and alerts in Datadog, diagnose bottlenecks, and optimize database query performance.
• Lead technical design reviews, decompose complex epics with Product and Design, and mentor engineers across squads.
• Use AI coding assistants, LLMs, and developer automation tools to improve code quality and delivery velocity.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience developing enterprise backend systems with Java, Kotlin, or comparable JVM languages and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining high-scale distributed systems and RESTful APIs in AWS.
• Hands-on experience with relational or non-relational databases, caching, and asynchronous message brokers.
• Strong testing practices across the testing pyramid and a commitment to test automation.
• Practical experience or demonstrated curiosity with AI coding tools, LLMs, or AI agents.
• Must be based in the USA and able to work remotely, with occasional attendance at department onsites and company events.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, Neo4j, Redis, RabbitMQ, Docker, Terraform, and GitLab CI.
• Knowledge of graph database modeling, event-driven architectures, or multi-tenant SaaS applications.
• Full-stack perspective, CI/CD optimization, and infrastructure-as-code experience.
