Backend Java Engineer (AI)

Location: Fully remote from France; up to 10% travel may be required.

What you will do

• Design data schemas and own data semantics.
• Maintain, improve, and scale Java APIs and distributed services processing continuous event streams and analytical workloads across terabytes of data.
• Investigate performance issues using server metrics, application data, and system behavior.
• Improve backend reliability, testability, and maintainability.
• Partner with product and engineering teams on technical design and implementation, and help define standards across teams.
• Lead large-scale releases and technical projects while using and critically assessing AI-generated development and debugging suggestions.

Requirements

• At least three years of experience designing, operating, and maintaining distributed systems.
• Strong Java development skills and experience with unit testing, code reviews, documentation, and Git-based version control.
• Professional fluency in spoken and written French.
• Experience leading significant releases or technical projects.
• Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic approach to building reliable, maintainable, and testable systems.

Nice to have

• Experience troubleshooting and improving JVM performance.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of distributed NoSQL databases or key-value stores.
• Strong Linux administration fundamentals.
