Senior Software Engineer, Design in Test (SDET)

Location: Tukwila, WA or remote within the US; preferred ability to work in the Tukwila office 1–2 days per week. Seattle and Tukwila locations require 2+ days in the office. US citizenship is required due to program requirements.

Salary: $145,000–$165,000 per year for candidates in Seattle, WA; compensation may vary for other states or locations.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain Python-based automated test frameworks, reusable modules, test harnesses, tools, and internal test applications.
• Build Python or Go simulators, mocks, and emulators for third-party environments, network behavior, and integration scenarios.
• Develop and execute automated API test suites using Python Requests, custom harnesses, and Postman/Newman where appropriate.
• Build and maintain automated UI test suites with Python Playwright using reusable components, selectors, and page-object patterns.
• Monitor nightly test runs, integrate results with Jira/X-Ray, Slack, and CI/CD pipelines, and analyze failures across APIs, backend services, and UI workflows.
• Perform targeted manual testing, document test plans and defects, validate fixes, improve test coverage, and support build and release readiness.

Requirements

• At least six years of experience as a Software Test Engineer, Automation Engineer, or SDET, with significant hands-on software development responsibilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or four additional years of equivalent experience.
• Strong Python proficiency, including reusable modules, automation frameworks, test harnesses, and testing tools.
• Experience developing automated API tests with Python Requests or equivalent frameworks.
• Experience designing and maintaining automated UI tests, preferably with Python Playwright, with emphasis on maintainable code structure.
• Experience building Python-based utilities, simulators, mocks, or environment emulators for complex test scenarios.
• Familiarity with test-result reporting and integrations with Jira/X-Ray, Slack, or similar tools.
• Strong ability to analyze automated test results, identify root causes across services and layers, troubleshoot API, backend, and UI issues, and validate fixes with developers.
• Working knowledge of CI-based automated test pipelines, nightly execution workflows, test orchestration, distributed systems, API-driven architectures, service interactions, test documentation, and defect reporting.
• US citizenship is required due to program requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience testing and verifying embedded software.
• Experience building or maintaining hardware for embedded software testing.
• Experience programming in Python, C, or C++.
• Ability to debug C/C++ and perform fault analysis.
• Experience maintaining CI/CD systems or infrastructure as code.
• Experience with QEMU, device emulation, Buildroot, or Yocto.
