Software Engineer (QA Automation)

Location: Remote

Base salary: $160,000–$170,000 per year

hirify.global is building an operating system for beverage alcohol retailers that combines POS, payments, back office, inventory management, reporting, and e-commerce.

What you will do

• Own the QA strategy for the POS app, back office, and payments, defining automation, manual testing, and release-blocking criteria.
• Build and maintain unit, integration, end-to-end, API, and contract test suites across the product.
• Integrate automated tests with GitHub Actions and maintain fast, reliable feedback with near-zero flaky tests.
• Establish evidence-based release gates, regression reporting, upgrade testing, staged rollouts, and hotfix go/no-go criteria.
• Validate real hardware and payment flows, including terminals, card readers, scanners, printers, offline mode, network failures, refunds, split tenders, and processor outages.
• Build reproducible test data and environments, partner with support on bug reproduction, track quality metrics, and coach engineers on testable code.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in QA or software engineering in test, including 2+ years as a senior or lead quality owner for a shipping product.
• Experience building test automation from scratch.
• Strong coding skills in Kotlin, Java, Ruby, TypeScript, or Python.
• Hands-on experience with frameworks such as Espresso, Maestro, Appium, Playwright, or Cypress and running tests in CI.
• Experience testing APIs, data integrity, and integrations between systems.
• Strong judgment about release risk and clear technical writing for bug reports and release notes.

Nice to have

• POS, retail, or payments experience, including card-present, processor certification, or PCI-aware testing.
• Experience with device fleet management, MDM, hardware peripherals, Rails test tooling, or contract testing.
• Familiarity with feature flags, staged rollouts, and release-health or observability tools.
• Experience with AI coding and testing tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or AI-assisted test generation.
