Software Engineering Manager (EdTech)

Location: San Mateo, California, US; full-time onsite work is required at the IXL headquarters office.

Base salary: $170,000–$220,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Manage and build a high-performance team of engineers, engineering leads, and engineering managers delivering educational experiences.
• Enable efficient delivery of features supporting educators and learners.
• Drive technical excellence across the software development lifecycle, from design through release.
• Mentor, coach, motivate, and support the professional development of team members.
• Communicate the company vision, mission, and values to provide purpose and direction.
• Collaborate with the broader development organization to prioritize work and lead initiatives.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of direct software engineering experience and 2 years of engineering management experience.
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science or a related discipline.
• Excellent programming skills in Java or another object-oriented language.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Exceptional analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organization and time management skills.
