IT Systems Engineer, Client Platform Engineer, ChromeOS

Location: Boston, MA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; New York City, NY; or Washington, DC. Remote-friendly with travel required; staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time.

Annual salary: $325,000–$360,000 USD.

What you will do

• Own ChromeOS at Anthropic, including device standards, Google Admin Console, Chrome Enterprise, organizational units, policies, enrollment, monitoring, and retirement.
• Manage ChromeOS configuration as code through the Chrome Policy API, GAM, Terraform, pull requests, CI, staging, and progressive rollouts.
• Build zero-touch enrollment with resellers and coordinate international device purchasing and shipping with IT Operations and procurement partners.
• Design and operate kiosk, managed guest session, shared-device, and assigned-device models for vendor programs.
• Implement device restrictions, lifecycle controls, fleet telemetry, Chrome Enterprise Premium data-loss controls, and security-based access decisions.
• Support Android Enterprise and zero-touch enrollment, vendor identity and contractor access models, and runbooks for launching new programs.

Requirements

• Experience owning ChromeOS as a platform for a fleet of thousands of devices.
• Strong knowledge of Google Admin Console and Chrome Enterprise, including organizational unit design, device and user policies, enrollment, and reporting.
• Experience automating ChromeOS policy through the Chrome Policy API or GAM.
• Experience running kiosk, managed guest, or shared-device programs for frontline, contact center, or outsourced teams.
• Experience setting up zero-touch enrollment with resellers and shipping devices across several countries.
• Working knowledge of Android device management and ability to operate in a mixed fleet.
• Ability to solve ambiguous problems spanning multiple teams and communicate technical concepts clearly to varied audiences, including vendor partners.
• Product-engineering rigor in IT Engineering and clear technical documentation skills.
• Python and shell scripting, Google Admin SDK, Chrome Policy API, GAM, fleet-scale device-state querying, GitOps, CI-based configuration management, and endpoint security fundamentals.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a field relevant to the role through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice to have

• Managing device configuration as code with pull requests, CI, staged rollout, and telemetry-gated promotion.
• Managing ChromeOS alongside macOS or mobile fleets.
• Using VDI or browser-based access to keep data off devices used by outsourced teams.
• Supporting BPO or vendor programs during rapid growth into new regions.
• Using LLMs to automate operational work or interest in using Claude as an operational assistant.
