Systems Engineer - R&D (Linux)

Location: Austin, TX; Chicago, Illinois; or New York, NY, United States

Salary: $150,000–$300,000 per year, plus discretionary performance-based bonuses and benefits.

What you will do

• Manage and optimize large-scale Linux distributed compute and HPC clusters.
• Automate and troubleshoot technical infrastructure across hardware and software.
• Conduct performance testing and tune the full infrastructure stack.
• Write Python and Shell scripts and services to automate repetitive tasks.
• Deploy customized core packages and manage changes to OS and platform components.
• Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to support bleeding-edge hardware and resolve infrastructure issues.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant systems engineering experience.
• Expertise installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Linux systems.
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Salt or Chef.
• Experience with Python and Shell scripting.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and support production services without sacrificing quality.

Nice to have

• Debian or Ubuntu experience.
• Basic C++ experience.
• GPU experience, including CUDA setup and basic debugging.
