Senior Director, Assistant Controller

Location: New York, New York, United States; other location: Nashville, Tennessee, United States. On-site at least four days per week under an office-first model.

Base salary: $250,000–$275,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Own monthly and quarterly close activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and scalability.
• Design and implement accounting policies, controls, and workflows covering U.S. GAAP, consolidations, and captive insurance reserves.
• Drive automation and AI adoption in reconciliations, reporting, and consolidation.
• Lead the accounting process and team through an upcoming ERP upgrade and conversion.
• Build, mentor, and lead a growing accounting team of approximately 8 accountants, including at least 3 direct reports.
• Partner with Tax, Treasury, FP&A, Operations, and Client Reporting while balancing team leadership with hands-on accounting work.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and a required CPA.
• 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including team leadership.
• Experience managing a team of at least 5 people.
• Prior experience working for or auditing public companies subject to Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICFR).
• Strong technical accounting knowledge in U.S. GAAP and consolidations.
• Proven experience implementing process improvements and leveraging technology and automation with an ICFR foundation.
• Hands-on experience building close-to-reporting processes in complex environments, with emphasis on automation and updating systems to a new ERP.
• Experience using AI tools such as Claude and Gemini to improve accounting and close processes.
• Ability to work with ambiguity, build processes from the ground up, and balance team management with hands-on individual contribution.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively across cultures and geographies.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Accounting or an MBA.
• Relevant professional certifications beyond CPA.
