Software Development Engineer II (Java)

Location: Remote in Colombia

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, and operate backend services and event-driven pipelines for messaging, notifications, location, subscriptions, and promotions.
• Improve reliability, latency, delivery rates, retries, rate limiting, and frequency capping for high-volume messaging and notification systems.
• Integrate and operate third-party platforms including Braze, Amazon Pinpoint, Apple and Google push services, and app store billing.
• Own features end-to-end, including planning, implementation, rollout, measurement, experimentation, and iteration.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, Marketing, and iOS, Android, and web engineering teams.
• Review code, mentor junior engineers and interns, maintain monitoring and runbooks, participate in on-call rotation, and use AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Gemini.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Java coding skills and working knowledge of microservices and distributed-systems fundamentals.
• Good knowledge of data structures and object-oriented design.
• Working knowledge of asynchronous, event-driven systems such as queues, pub/sub, or streams, including retries and idempotent processing.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding tools in a real engineering workflow.
• Experience owning multiple features end-to-end, breaking down engineering problems, writing tests, evaluating trade-offs, handling edge cases, and delivering within committed timeframes.
• Comfort giving and receiving feedback in code reviews, a bias toward shipping and iteration, and the ability and desire to learn.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Fluency in another modern object-oriented programming language.
• Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, Agile development, and REST APIs.
• Experience with AWS services such as DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, Lambda, and ElastiCache with Redis.
• Experience with Braze, Amazon Pinpoint, APNs, FCM, App Store billing, or Google Play billing.
• Experience with Apache Flink, Kafka Streams, A/B testing platforms, or analytics warehouses such as BigQuery and Snowflake.
• Experience integrating LLM-based APIs such as Bedrock, Vertex AI, or OpenAI.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
