Legal Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, US. Hybrid, onsite at the SF HQ 3+ days per week. Candidates must already be authorized to work in the US; H-1B transfers, F-1 OPT and STEM OPT, TN for Canada and Mexico, and E-3 for Australia are supported. New H-1B visas for candidates outside the US cannot be sponsored.

Salary: $251,000–$276,000 USD/year. Competitive equity is also offered.

What you will do

• Build legal team tools for contract intake, redlining and review agents, clause libraries, and customer-commitment tracking.
• Translate counsel's legal decisions into production code, product behavior, and pipeline checks.
• Research and technically analyze terms of service, robots.txt, copyright, privacy, and data providers for Alexandria.
• Own the technical implementation and verification of legal commitments in terms, DPAs, and policies for customer security reviews.
• Build tools that enable sales and operations to handle routine paperwork without waiting for legal review.
• Identify legal risk before product launch and resolve it through engineering.

Requirements

• Production engineering experience with software used by real users, including Python or TypeScript, APIs, data, and LLMs.
• A real legal background: a JD or years of experience inside a law firm or in-house legal team.
• Fluency in both software engineering and legal work.
• AI must be used as a default productivity tool.
• Ability to turn vague legal questions into clear rules and clear rules into systems.
• Ability to work independently and build a new function without a predefined plan.
