Telecommunications Infrastructure Technician II (Telecommunications Engineering Tech, II)

Location: Lexington Park, MD; on-site 4 twelve-hour days per week, with approximately 90% travel to Hawaii for extended assignments of up to 9 consecutive weeks.

Salary: $25.72–$29.58 per hour.

What you will do

• Interpret engineering packages and coordinate materials, tools, and work crews at job sites.
• Interface with customers, attend project meetings, and submit daily or weekly status reports.
• Install, demolish, and update inside plant cabling infrastructure within ISP crews.
• Assist with pre-installation testing of materials and maintain proficiency working with copper.
• Perform work in confined spaces and maintain responsibility for work quality and personnel safety.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience working with ISP and/or OSP cabling and cabling infrastructure.
• Understanding of TIA/EIA, BICSI, IEEE, or related standards as applied to OSI Layer 1 infrastructure installation.
• Ability to interpret engineering packages and perform activities required for ISP installation.
• Experience working in inside and outside cable plant environments.
• Excellent verbal, written, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to interface professionally with individuals at all levels.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance; the clearance process considers financial background aspects.
• Ability to lift items up to NIOSH limits, stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods, and climb ladders and scaffolding.
• Ability to work at heights and in small, cramped, or confined spaces, as well as hot, humid, and cold environments.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice to have

• Experience testing fiber and/or copper.
• Experience working in data centers and server farms.
• Current Top Secret/SCI clearance.
• Current BICSI Installer Certification and continued certification or training.
• Fiber and copper certifications.
• Associate’s degree in a related technical area.
