Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Fully remote in Brazil, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, and Florianópolis.

Rate: $120,000–$140,000 USD annually, contractor, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Lead cross-functional delivery teams of 4–5 engineers and report to the Head of Engineering.
• Create concrete growth plans, support career development, manage performance, and address conflict and underperformance directly.
• Drive predictable delivery by managing scope, surfacing risks early, and maintaining committed delivery cadence.
• Partner with Product, Design, quality engineering, architecture, security, and other engineering teams from estimation through release.
• Provide technical direction through system design input, architectural risk identification, debugging support, and blocker removal.
• Introduce and measure AI adoption across code review, documentation, sprint planning, debugging, and development workflows.

Requirements

• Experience leading fully remote teams as a default operating model, including async decision-making and distributed team management.
• Deep practical AI adoption experience, including bringing AI workflows and tools such as Claude or Copilot into engineering work.
• Demonstrated people development experience, including career growth plans, difficult conversations, and structured underperformance management.
• Direct and timely conflict resolution across engineering teams and cross-functional partners.
• Ability to use metrics such as velocity, retention risk, and individual contributor growth to make people and delivery decisions.
• Technical credibility through code reviews, architectural input, and hands-on debugging support.
• Ability to delegate, coach engineers toward decisions, and avoid becoming a bottleneck.
• Commitment to people leadership as the primary professional focus rather than a transition back to individual contributor work.
• Ability to surface risks early, manage proactively, and maintain delivery quality while scaling teams.
