Software Engineer II (Backend)

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for tax and fee calculation, title and registration, DMV status tracking, and order management.
• Integrate with tax and registration vendors, SAP, and other third-party partners, driving technical issues to resolution.
• Implement state- and jurisdiction-specific rules and improve them through configurable, maintainable systems.
• Support dealer and location launches, state expansions, and vehicle programs such as R2.
• Collaborate with Order Management, Finance, Shop Engineering, Tax, Title & Registration Operations, and Program Management.
• Participate in on-call rotations, triage production issues, write tested code, review changes, and use AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and Claude.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience, primarily with backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot or a similar framework.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs and integrating third-party services.
• Familiarity with relational databases and event-driven or messaging systems such as Kafka.
• Strong attention to detail, ownership of correctness, clear communication, and the ability to work with non-engineering stakeholders.
• Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Nice to have

• Experience in automotive, e-commerce, fintech, or another regulated domain.
• Knowledge of sales tax, vehicle registration, or financial calculations.
• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, GitOps tools such as ArgoCD, or ERP systems such as SAP.
