District Transportation Manager

Location: Based out of Houston, TX, US; 25-50% travel required.

What you will do

• Act as the primary transportation liaison for the district and manage transportation operations across private fleets and common carriers.
• Optimize private fleet dispatch, driver DOT HOS compliance, route plans, mode mix, retention, and recruiting strategies.
• Develop lane-level sourcing strategies, negotiate truckload rates, manage carrier relationships, and improve on-time delivery performance.
• Plan near-term, short-term, and long-term transportation capacity and maintain capacity for a 20% volume surge.
• Guide branch operations on fleet utilization, develop capital replacement strategies, and support annual procurement bids.
• Manage spot-rate decisions, an approximately $7 million transportation budget, the Annual Operating Plan, and cost-saving objectives.

Requirements

• College degree and 3-5 years of logistics or supply-chain experience.
• Experience with multimodal transportation, including TL and LTL, legal and regulatory matters, customer service, logistics, and carrier operations.
• Multi-year experience leading private fleets with demonstrated efficiency.
• Budgeting and P&L experience.
• In-depth knowledge of SAP and SAP TM systems.
• Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, collaboration, leadership, influencing, analytical, and negotiating skills.
• Ability to prioritize, solve problems, lead process and organizational change, and communicate supply-chain concepts at tactical levels.
• Ability to collaborate with operations, transportation planning, commercial teams, regional DTMs, procurement, and vendors.

Nice to have

• Experience in HAZMAT and tanker transportation operations.
• Previous experience in a distribution environment.
