Software Development Engineer (Open-Source)

Location: Dublin, Ireland; onsite role.

What you will do

• Implement, document, secure, and maintain AWS Lambda runtimes and supporting libraries across Python, NodeJS, Java, .NET, Ruby, Go, and Rust.
• Define how developers write and run code through Lambda programming models and integrations with the serverless ecosystem.
• Engage with upstream open-source communities and align runtimes with evolving language advancements.
• Simplify runtime operations for efficiency and scalability while balancing security patching urgency against customer disruption risk.
• Collaborate with diverse engineering peers through development, mentorship, training, and team assignments.

Requirements

• Professional, non-internship software development experience, including development within the last three years or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience designing or architecting new and existing systems using design patterns, reliability, and scaling principles; alternatively, experience debugging, profiling, and applying software engineering practices in large-scale systems.
• Programming experience in at least one software programming language.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, effective communication, troubleshooting and debugging experience, or experience managing full application stacks from the operating system through custom applications.
• Meaningful contributions to established open-source projects.
• Strong programming skills in at least two of Java, Python, Node.js, Go, and Rust.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience with the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Experience with AWS services.
