Software Development Engineer (Open-Source, Runtimes)

What you will do

• Develop and maintain AWS Lambda runtimes, supporting libraries, documentation, and implementation across Python, Node.js, Java, .NET, Ruby, Go, and Rust.
• Integrate runtime implementations with the Lambda platform and the broader serverless ecosystem.
• Engage with upstream open-source communities and align runtimes with evolving language capabilities.
• Simplify runtime operations for efficiency and scalability while managing security updates.
• Balance security patching urgency with customer disruption risk and deliver a reliable developer experience.
• Collaborate with diverse engineering peers through task assignments, mentorship, and training.

Requirements

• Professional software development experience, excluding internships.
• Experience designing or architecting new and existing large-scale systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling, or experience debugging, profiling, and applying software engineering best practices in large-scale systems.
• Experience with open-source tools and resources.
• Strong programming skills in at least two of Java, Python, Node.js, Go, and Rust.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent qualification.
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
