Distinguished Software Engineer (Java/Azure)

Location: Hybrid position in the United States; four days onsite at the Seneca One Buffalo, NY location and one day working from home. The role is also listed in Wilmington, Delaware.

Salary: $184,400–$307,400 annual USD.

What you will do

• Shape enterprise-wide software programming strategy and provide technical leadership across the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Drive adoption of SDLC best practices, enterprise standards, regulatory controls, and organizational engineering patterns.
• Design and lead enterprise implementations and cross-domain rollouts from requirements gathering through execution and acceptance.
• Create, refine, and promote cloud-native patterns for AKS, Istio service mesh, Envoy ingress/reverse proxy, and Open Policy Agent policy-as-code.
• Lead architecture discussions with senior engineers, architects, executive technology leaders, and business stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers, analyze quantitative benefits, identify risks, and support technology roadmaps and organizational change.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree plus at least 11 years of systems analysis and/or application development experience, or a bachelor’s degree plus at least 9 years of such experience. In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years of education and/or relevant work experience is required, including at least 9 years of systems analysis and/or application development experience.
• Expert proficiency in at least three programming languages, including Java and Spring Boot.
• Advanced computer engineering knowledge, including data structures and algorithms.
• Ability to write organized, clean, efficient, and secure source code and design advanced engineering solutions.
• Ability to drive enterprise-level project milestones and delivery dates and lead enterprise-wide projects or initiatives.
• Ability to partner with and present to multiple executive-level stakeholders across technology and business departments.
• Ability to work autonomously, multitask across complex projects, and collaborate in a team environment.
• Strong organizational, time-management, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to influence others.
• Understanding of and adherence to risk, regulatory, internal control, audit, and company policy requirements.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with Azure/AKS, Istio service mesh, Envoy reverse proxy, and Open Policy Agent.
• Expert analytical skills specific to application development.
• Proven subject-matter expertise in the required technical skill set.
