Software Engineer (Java/AI)

Location: Customer site in Fort Meade, Maryland, 4–5 days per week; flexibility is required to accommodate schedule changes.

Salary: $115,199–$160,000 annually, plus a $20,000 sign-on bonus if hired as an hirify.global employee.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Build enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, and microservices-based solutions.
• Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Gemini for multi-file feature development, refactoring, and automated test generation.
• Guide agents through complex multi-repository architectures and audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Collaborate with engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions and keep current with emerging technologies.
• Support workspace opening and closing during regular business hours as needed.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and an active Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance are required; ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI is also required.
• Five years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries, or an equivalent education and experience combination.
• Experience with enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices, object-oriented programming, and the agile software lifecycle.
• Experience with Linux and configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Strong testing, troubleshooting, learning, communication, and deadline-management skills.
• Ability to work at the Fort Meade customer site 4–5 days per week.

Nice to have

• Current TS/SCI clearance.
• Experience using Claude Code or Gemini in daily engineering workflows.
• Cloud experience with AWS or Azure.
• Experience with distributed or NoSQL databases and search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Experience with scripting, data lakes or warehouses, and tools such as Jira, Confluence, or GitHub Enterprise.
