Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Customer site in Fort Meade, Maryland, 4–5 days per week; regular business-hour schedule and flexibility required.

Salary: $115,199–$160,000 annually. A $20,000 sign-on bonus is available if hired as an hirify.global employee.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java-based software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Design enterprise APIs and RESTful web services using microservices architecture.
• Integrate Claude Code or Gemini-based agentic workflows into daily software engineering activities.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration test generation.
• Manage AI-agent context across complex, multi-repository architectures and audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Collaborate with engineers in a fast-paced small-business environment while troubleshooting issues and meeting multiple deadlines.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and an active Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance are required; ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI is required.
• Five years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries, or an equivalent education and experience combination.
• Experience with enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices, object-oriented programming, and the Agile software lifecycle.
• Experience with Linux and configuration-management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Must be able to work at the customer site in Fort Meade, Maryland, 4–5 days per week.
• Strong testing, troubleshooting, learning, independent-working, and teamwork skills; willingness to help open or close the workspace during business hours as needed.

Nice to have

• Current TS/SCI clearance.
• Experience with Claude Code, Gemini, or other autonomous AI coding workflows.
• Cloud experience with AWS or Azure.
• Experience with distributed or NoSQL databases and search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Experience with scripting, data lakes or warehouses, and tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or GitHub Enterprise.
