What you will do

• Own the end-to-end month-end close, including reconciliations, review controls, accruals, prepaid expenses, and vendor commitments.
• Manage the transition from a third-party accounting firm to an in-house accounting function.
• Prepare financial statements, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and diligence materials.
• Own revenue recognition for subscription, usage-based, and professional services contracts, including technical accounting memos.
• Lead preparation for the first annual audit, including auditor selection, PBC materials, controls documentation, and open-item resolution.
• Run financial operations, maintain accounting records, implement systems, automate repetitive work, and hire future accounting team members.

Requirements

• CPA or CPA-eligible status and a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• 7+ years of accounting experience, including hands-on ownership of a close at a venture-backed company.
• Big 4 audit experience followed by experience at a high-growth startup or technology company, ideally in SaaS or usage-based business.
• Strong command of US GAAP, including ASC 606 revenue recognition and stock-based compensation.
• Experience preparing for or supporting an audit, ideally a first audit.
• Ability to make sound decisions with incomplete information, document them, and adjust as facts change.
• Daily use of AI tools and interest in automating reconciliations, reporting, and review.
• Hands-on, detail-oriented communication skills, including explaining accounting decisions to non-finance stakeholders and collaborating with external firms.
• Ability to work independently as both strategist and doer in a team of one.

Nice to have

• Experience moving accounting from an outsourced firm to an in-house team.
• Multi-entity or international accounting experience, including Canada.
• Experience with usage-based or consumption pricing and variable cloud and infrastructure costs.
• Familiarity with B2B distribution, supply chain, or logistics software.
• Experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks, Bill.com, Ramp, Stripe, or similar tools.
• Previous experience at a Series B or later company.
