Director, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting

Location: South San Francisco, California, United States; hybrid work with onsite attendance three days per week at headquarters.

Salary: $217,000–$231,000 per year for successful US-based applicants, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus and equity incentive plan.

What you will do

• Own annual audits, US GAAP financial statements, footnote disclosures, reporting packages, and external auditor relationships.
• Lead technical accounting research and policy for collaboration revenue, partnerships, leases, equity and financing instruments, and clinical-stage activities.
• Evaluate accounting for preclinical and clinical programs, including R&D and clinical trial accruals for CRO and CDMO arrangements.
• Oversee stock-based compensation, 409A valuation support, tax coordination, international statutory reporting, and subsidiary compliance.
• Build scalable process documentation and internal controls, including future ownership of SOX compliance and SEC reporting.
• Deploy Claude and other AI tools for roll-forwards, tie-outs, disclosure drafting, research, and accounting memo preparation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and 8–12+ years of relevant experience.
• Active CPA license and deep practical knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting.
• Hands-on ownership of audited financial statements, footnote disclosures, and external audit processes.
• Experience with preclinical and clinical-stage biotech accounting, including R&D and clinical trial accruals.
• Experience using Claude or other AI tools to improve accounting and reporting workflows with appropriate professional judgment.
• Ability to work onsite three days per week at the South San Francisco headquarters.

Nice to have

• Big Four public accounting and public company experience, preferably in biotech or life sciences.
• Experience with pharma collaboration and licensing agreements, ASC 718 modifications, 409A valuations, R&D tax credits, Section 382, and international equity taxation.
• Private-to-public or pre-IPO experience, including SEC reporting or SOX program implementation.
• Experience with Oracle Cloud ERP, Carta, Workiva, advanced Excel, and G-Suite.
