Lead Full Stack Engineer (AWS/Node.js)

Location: Fully remote within the United States; candidates near hirify.global offices may choose a hybrid schedule with Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the office.

Salary: $168,000–$181,000 annually, adjusted based on location, experience, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of scalable AWS backend solutions, including REST APIs, microservices, data pipelines, and event-driven applications.
• Build and improve scoring capabilities for SAT, PSAT, and AP assessment systems using Node.js, TypeScript, and serverless technologies.
• Translate data insights and business requirements into technical decisions, user stories, data mappings, designs, and delivery plans.
• Resolve production issues through monitoring, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and lasting corrective fixes.
• Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, design patterns, code review, and DevOps practices.
• Mentor junior engineers, provide technical direction, decompose complex features, and guide responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.

Requirements

• 7+ years of production software development experience, including technical design and delivery leadership.
• Strong backend development experience with JavaScript, Node.js, and TypeScript.
• 3–4 years of hands-on AWS experience, including Lambda, S3, Step Functions, DynamoDB, SNS, SQS, and CloudWatch.
• Experience with CI/CD, NoSQL data stores, infrastructure as code, Agile methodology, DevOps, TDD, BDD, and Documentation as Code.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor engineers, influence partners without formal authority, and own ambiguous technical problems.
• Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is required. A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or an equivalent qualification is also required.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS CDK and additional AWS services such as API Gateway, IAM, CloudFront, VPCs, and Secrets Manager.
• Experience with assessment or education technology systems, including scoring or calibration.
• Interest in Developer Experience and User Experience concepts.
