Managing Director - Commercial Accounts

Location: Hybrid; Hoover, Alabama, with additional locations in Alpharetta, Georgia; Franklin, Tennessee; and Flowood, Mississippi. The role includes regular in-person meetings with agents and brokers and travel to those meetings.

Annual base salary: $153,700–$253,700, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Manage profitability, growth, and retention of commercial accounts within a location or region.
• Partner with the RVP to develop and implement strategies supporting profit and growth objectives.
• Manage relationships and strategies involving local brokers and agencies.
• Underwrite and negotiate complex, at-risk, and difficult-to-close deals across commercial property, general liability, auto, and workers’ compensation products.
• Build internal partnerships, develop sales and cross-selling strategies, and identify business opportunities.
• Provide strategic direction, coaching, training, and performance management for the underwriting team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Six years of experience in underwriting, claims, operations, risk assessment, actuarial, sales, product, or finance.
• Eight to ten years of relevant underwriting experience, including commercial accounts experience.
• Experience leading or managing others and prior management of a field location.
• Expert knowledge of commercial accounts products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
• Strong critical-thinking skills, including the ability to identify underwriting, marketing, and financial challenges and make timely decisions aligned with risk appetite.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills for difficult situations with agents and brokers.
• CPCU designation.
