Robotics Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote; Cambridge, UK; London, UK. The role includes visits to factories in the US and UK.

Compensation: UK £80K–£125K or US $125K–$250K per year, depending on experience, plus equity.

hirify.global is building The Grid, a factory-scale robotics platform for efficient small-batch, high-mix electronics assembly.

What you will do

• Architect the robot operating system, including abstractions for robots, cameras, tools, jobs, planning, dispatch, shared state, and failure handling.
• Integrate computer vision algorithms into production robot control loops for part finding, centring, pick verification, and placement verification.
• Apply large models to robotics use cases such as programming parts from datasheets, judging picks from camera images, diagnosing faults, and recovering from failures.
• Route multiple movers without collisions or deadlocks and coordinate gantries, printers, and ovens.
• Design interfaces between high-level planning systems and real-time motor controllers.
• Build simulation, tracing, and replay capabilities to validate changes and explain failures before factory deployment.

Requirements

• Experience working on a large-scale robot codebase running on real hardware in production; ideally, experience architecting such a codebase.
• Strong software engineering skills in Python and Rust, or in C++ with willingness to move to Rust.
• Experience with one or more of motion or path planning, multi-robot coordination, controls, perception, and scheduling.
• Hands-on experience applying large language models or vision-language models to robotics.
• Strong understanding of types, testing, concurrency, and clear software architecture.
• Experience using coding agents and taking full ownership of their output.
• Willingness to visit hirify.global factories in the US and UK.

Nice to have

• Strong drive to apply large models to robotics if direct hands-on experience is limited.
