Mechatronics Engineers (Robotics)

Location: Full-time on-site at one of the UK sites in Cambridge or London.

Salary: £45,000–£125,000 per year depending on experience, plus equity.

hirify.global is building The Grid, a factory-scale robotics platform for efficient small-batch, high-mix electronics assembly.

What you will do

• Own mechatronics projects end to end, from defining factory-floor problems and specifications to building, commissioning, and handing over machines for production scaling.
• Generate mechanisms for electronics handling and robotic tasks, design gantries and end effectors in Fusion 360, and validate designs with engineering calculations.
• Prototype and machine parts in the in-house CNC shop, then analyse machine and end-effector behaviour to improve throughput and reliability.
• Program machine behaviour on the in-house robotics operating system with AI agents and support from the software engineering team.
• Specify sensors for error detection and chemical-process monitoring, and prototype and deploy robots for in-line PCB validation.
• Work across the US and UK sites to share learnings and influence the engineering roadmap.

Requirements

• Previous experience building physical systems, ideally robots, as a hobbyist, student, employee, or founder.
• Ability to diagnose system-wide failures from first principles and prototype mechanical and software fixes.
• Ability to work autonomously, communicate clearly with a team across sites, and take responsibility for machine performance in live production.
• Experience designing in CAD and proving designs with engineering calculations, plus hands-on prototyping and manufacturing.
• Basic software engineering skills for programming machine behaviour; a dedicated software background is not required.
• Ability to use AI tools to scope problems, drive CAD, run calculations, and write machine software while recognising when to distrust their output.
• Full-time on-site availability at the Cambridge or London UK site.

Nice to have

• Experience programming machines using PLCs, robot controllers, embedded systems, or Python.
• Experience programming and running CNC machinery.
• Experience designing chemical-handling machinery or working with optics.
• Experience leading the build and deployment of large-scale automated systems.
• Experience writing software to control self-designed machines.
• Experience designing for machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, and other manufacturing methods.
• Experience mentoring more junior engineers.
