Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer (Fusion)

Location: Culham, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. The role is primarily onsite because of the facilities and work involved; hybrid working may be discussed depending on business needs.

Salary: £64,820 per year, inclusive of a Specialist Allowance.

What you will do

• Lead medium-to-large-scale fusion control and instrumentation projects from concept through detailed design, installation, and commissioning.
• Act as a subject matter expert for control and instrumentation systems across projects and programmes.
• Develop control system architectures, solutions, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Lead software development using industrial control platforms such as Siemens S7/PCS7, LabVIEW, ABB 800xA, Python, and C++.
• Manage requirements capture, design reviews, HAZOPs, risk management, budgets, and stakeholder engagement.
• Coordinate and mentor multidisciplinary teams and contractors while ensuring safe, high-quality, and cost-effective delivery.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent professional experience, or an HND in an electrical/electronic discipline with substantial relevant experience.
• Significant experience with PLC and SCADA systems, including Siemens, ABB 800xA, or similar control system applications.
• Strong understanding of EC&I documentation, including SLDs, P&IDs, C&Es, and schematics.
• Experience designing, installing, testing, and commissioning control and instrumentation software and hardware systems.
• Advanced knowledge of safe working practices and preparation of safety documentation, including risk assessments, method statements, permits, and isolations.
• Experience in scientific or engineering environments with strict safety processes and broad stakeholder collaboration. Completion of BPSS screening, including DBS checks, is required.
