VESL Instructor (ESL)

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, United States; a combination of office, field work at teaching locations across the Salt Lake Valley, and remote work. Occasional weekend or evening work is required.

Salary: $26.08–$27.50 per hour.

What you will do

• Conduct student intakes, assess English proficiency, and place learners in appropriate classes.
• Teach vocational English as a second language to adult English Language Learners using existing curricula.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials as needed, promoting English competencies required to obtain and retain employment.
• Assess learner progress, track attendance, and maintain accurate enrollment and participation records.
• Update student data in the organization’s data management platform and complete information required by grant funders.
• Coordinate with workforce development managers, employment specialists, and other staff through team meetings, case staffing, and staff development activities.

Requirements

• TESOL or TEFL certification is required.
• An undergraduate degree in a related field is strongly required.
• Experience teaching ESL is required.
• Confidence teaching in a standard adult classroom environment.
• Familiarity with planning and delivering lessons that meet learner measurement goals using supporting curricula.
• Patience with individuals learning a secondary language, coworkers, and community members; reliability and punctuality for scheduled classes.
• Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Strong written and oral English skills, initiative, independent problem-solving ability, and creativity in teaching adults with varied English levels.
• A driver’s license and insured car are required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree.
• 2+ years of experience teaching Adult ESL.
• Experience with online instruction or learning.
• Experience with workforce or job training programs.
• Experience working in global environments and with adults.
• Knowledge of Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Spanish, Arabic, Sango, or French.
