Engineering Manager, Data (Data Engineering)

Location: Hybrid; must be located in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, or Seattle, United States

Salary: $193,800–$285,000 USD annual base salary, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Lead, hire, coach, and grow high-performing data engineering teams.
• Set the technical and strategic vision for embedded data engineering teams and foundational platforms.
• Guide the development of enterprise-scale data solutions, reusable data assets, and components.
• Improve data architecture, development processes, reliability, quality, and engineering excellence.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, external partners, data scientists, and peer data leaders.
• Build and operate scalable batch and real-time data processing systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
• 10+ years of experience in data engineering or a related domain.
• 2+ years of hands-on engineering management experience, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and mentoring.
• Strong communication, leadership, planning, execution, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Hands-on coding ability in SQL and Python.
• Experience with data warehouses, cloud platforms, big data systems, ETL orchestration, and large-scale processing using technologies such as Snowflake, Redshift, AWS or GCP, Hadoop, Spark, Flink, Airflow, and Lambda/Kappa architectures.

Nice to have

• Experience with Delta Lake or Apache Iceberg.
• Experience building systems that directly power online applications.
• Exposure to CockroachDB, Cassandra, or PostgreSQL.
