Staff Data Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote throughout the United States, or from the modern office in Manhattan, New York. Hiring is unavailable in Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Oklahoma, and South Carolina.

Salary: $170,000–$185,000 annually, plus a $17,000–$18,500 bonus.

What you will do

• Set multi-quarter technical direction for the data platform and drive execution of complex cross-functional initiatives.
• Architect and build scalable data platforms for analytics and operational use cases.
• Partner with technical and business stakeholders, lead advocacy and training, and influence platform adoption.
• Improve system performance, observability, reliability, and scalability while introducing new infrastructure and software patterns.
• Lead adoption of AI-assisted self-service analytics and AI-assisted development practices.
• Raise engineering standards through documentation, code reviews, technical talks, mentoring, and on-call troubleshooting.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building data or backend systems, including technical leadership across multiple teams.
• Expertise in AI-assisted software development, Python, SQL, and cloud data warehousing with Snowflake or BigQuery.
• Experience building software systems or partnering closely with software engineering teams.
• Proficiency with containers, orchestration tools, preferably Airflow, and infrastructure as code with Terraform.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes, Kafka, streaming data pipelines, and cloud services such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
• Must be able to work remotely from the United States, excluding the listed states, or work from the Manhattan office.

Nice to have

• Experience building CDC platforms, front-end behavior tracking, MLOps platforms, or AI self-service tooling.
