Staff Data Engineer, Tech Lead (AI)

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States; hybrid work with remote flexibility within the US

Base salary: $243,000–$285,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Own the technical direction, architecture, standards, and design decisions for data engineering.
• Lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives from scoping through delivery and represent data engineering in staff leadership forums.
• Architect reliable, high-throughput batch and streaming ingestion frameworks for internal systems, third-party APIs, and event data.
• Build machine learning deployment infrastructure, including feature pipelines, model serving, and production monitoring.
• Define data schemas, lifecycle practices, governance, quality controls, metadata, lineage, security, and privacy standards.
• Mentor engineers and partner with product, engineering, analytics, compliance, Operations, Finance, and Risk stakeholders.

Requirements

• 8+ years of data engineering experience, including 3+ years in senior or staff-level roles.
• Experience as a technical lead owning direction for a team or major platform area and delivering multi-quarter initiatives.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted and agentic engineering in data work.
• Expertise in batch and streaming ingestion, cloud-native data platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or Redshift, and machine learning deployment infrastructure.
• Strong SQL and Python skills, with knowledge of data warehouse methodologies, dimensional and normalized modeling, distributed systems, governance, security, and compliance.
• Experience with orchestration and metadata tools such as Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, dbt, DataHub, or Amundsen, plus strong communication and mentoring skills.
