Staff Cybersecurity Software Engineer (Authorization Services)

Location: Remote within the United States, with onsite attendance at a GM hub three times a week for candidates living within the specified radius of Austin, Mountain View, Seattle, Sunnyvale, Warren, or Washington, D.C.

Salary: $160,200–$246,300 base salary per year, plus bonus potential.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and operate production-critical authorization frameworks and access control systems.
• Build policy-driven and distributed authorization solutions using permissions, roles, and attributes.
• Develop secure, testable cloud-native microservices and APIs for public cloud platforms.
• Lead security and authorization reviews, define remediation plans, and establish reusable engineering guardrails.
• Implement observability through metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerts, and health checks.
• Support critical production systems and participate in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on application development experience, including authentication, authorization, or access control.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent expertise.
• Deep experience with role-based and attribute-based access control, secure applications, identity, secrets, and service-to-service communication.
• Strong programming skills in one or more of Go, Spring Boot, Python, JavaScript, or Java.
• Experience with Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, Helm, GitOps, Argo CD, CI/CD, and production release practices.
• GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; candidates must already have the required U.S. work authorization.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed authorization frameworks and policy engines.
• Expertise in graph or relationship-focused data stores and complex permission modeling.
• Hands-on experience with IAM, OAuth, OIDC, SpiceDB, or Zanzibar.
