Full-Stack Engineer (AI)

Location: Oakland, California, or remote within US time zones with working-hours overlap between GMT and GMT-8. Quarterly in-person retreats require travel.

Salary: Senior (L4) $185,000–$270,000 annually plus equity; Expert (L5) $215,000–$305,000 annually plus equity; Principal (L6) above $260,000 annually plus significant equity.

What you will do

• Own the scholarly search and data platform, including coverage, freshness, quality, reliability, and cost.
• Integrate scholarly literature, clinical trials, scientific databases, publisher content, and private customer data into cited, agentic research workflows.
• Build secure, rights-aware integrations for enterprise customers and content partners, addressing access, privacy, isolation, and auditability.
• Deliver end-to-end features across the Next.js and React frontend, TypeScript and Python services, APIs, and data layer.
• Ship through staged rollouts with monitoring and rollback capabilities, then operate and improve the systems in production.
• Use coding agents daily while maintaining hands-on review and quality control.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including ownership of production systems and architecture decisions.
• Strong Python and working knowledge of TypeScript; React experience is a plus.
• Experience designing, debugging, and tuning distributed data pipelines; Spark experience is especially useful.
• Solid SQL knowledge and practical understanding of partitioning, joins, columnar formats, data layout, performance, and cost.
• Experience integrating external data through APIs, bulk exports, file drops, changing schemas, rate limits, partial failures, and overlapping records.
• Experience shipping user-facing features end to end, plus at least one year at an early- or growth-stage company.
