Director, Data Center Engineering (AI)

Location: Livingston, NJ; New York, NY; Sunnyvale, CA; San Francisco, CA; or Bellevue, WA. The role requires 20% travel to data center sites and access to export-controlled information.

Base salary: $180,000–$264,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead and develop multidisciplinary engineering subject matter experts across mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, architectural, plumbing, controls, fire protection, and life-safety disciplines.
• Set the technical strategy for a global data center portfolio supporting high-density AI compute.
• Govern the Basis of Design, reference designs, engineering standards, specifications, and long-term infrastructure roadmap.
• Coordinate design reviews, technical assurance, construction, commissioning, operational feedback, and continuous improvement across multiple projects.
• Evaluate advanced cooling, liquid cooling, power distribution, energy storage, controls, modular infrastructure, and other emerging technologies.
• Provide technical direction to design consultants, contractors, data center providers, suppliers, and executive leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or related engineering.
• 15+ years of progressively responsible data center engineering, infrastructure design, construction, commissioning, or operations experience, including 8+ years in engineering leadership or people management.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and delivering large-scale, high-density data centers, including greenfield developments and multi-building campuses.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, substations, UPS systems, generators, cooling plants, liquid cooling, water systems, BMS and controls, fire protection, and life-safety systems.
• Experience governing Basis of Design documents, reference designs, technical standards, engineering reviews, and portfolio-level roadmaps.
• Must satisfy applicable U.S. export-control eligibility requirements for access to controlled information.

Nice to have

• Advanced engineering degree, Professional Engineer license, LEED, Uptime Institute, or similar certification.
• Experience implementing emerging data center technologies, high-density compute infrastructure, advanced cooling, modular systems, and energy-efficiency initiatives.
• Experience building relationships with utilities, A/E firms, contractors, commissioning agents, equipment manufacturers, and technology partners.
