Manager, Software Engineering (Platform Engineering)

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a distributed team of platform engineers across career stages and geographies.
• Define the team mission, roadmap, priorities, success measures, and platform adoption strategy.
• Build reusable golden paths for service creation, delivery automation, identity and networking, observability, policy-as-code, and shared engineering capabilities.
• Partner with Product Management, Architecture, Security, Data Science, and Application Engineering to turn common needs into reusable platform products.
• Guide technical decisions across cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, service platforms, and AI-enabled engineering workflows.
• Establish guardrails, governance, production readiness, incident learning, and sustainable on-call practices while balancing reliability, security, cost, and maintainability.

Requirements

• Experience leading and developing software or platform engineering teams, including distributed or cross-functional teams.
• Recent technical experience with cloud-native software, developer platforms, infrastructure automation, distributed systems, or related engineering domains.
• Product mindset with experience treating internal developers as customers and measuring platform outcomes.
• Experience using data and metrics to guide platform investment, prioritization, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to participate in technical discussions while preserving engineering ownership and to balance delivery, reliability, security, compliance, cost, and maintainability.
• Strong communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to coaching, feedback, psychological safety, and inclusive team practices.

Nice to have

• Experience building internal developer platforms, platform-as-a-product capabilities, or paved-road engineering experiences.
• Experience with AWS or another major cloud provider, containers, orchestration, infrastructure as code, GitOps, CI/CD, and observability.
• Familiarity with policy-as-code, identity and access management, service catalogs, developer portals, platform governance, and adoption metrics.
• Experience with FinOps, cloud cost optimization, engineering economics, or platform telemetry.
• Experience enabling responsible generative AI, coding assistants, agents, security, compliance, and auditability in engineering workflows.
