Senior Manager of Software Engineering (AI)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid work with four days in-office each week in most locations

Total cash compensation: CAD 112,583–162,125 annually, including base salary and bonus target. Incentive target: 20%.

What you will do

• Lead North American engineering teams supporting retirement products and fiduciary services.
• Hire, coach, and develop technical leads and engineers while building a culture of ownership and continuous learning.
• Set standards for architecture, design reviews, decision-making, ownership, and engineering execution.
• Lead the transition from AI-assisted to agentic engineering by defining context, guardrails, automated checks, and verification practices.
• Drive initiatives spanning multiple applications and engineering teams, managing dependencies, removing blockers, and maintaining delivery momentum.
• Partner with Product Management on roadmaps, priorities, and platform modernization.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading engineering teams with direct people management responsibility.
• Strong technical depth in distributed systems, service architecture, API design, data consistency, resiliency, and performance.
• Hands-on proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, AWS, and cloud-native development, with enough JavaScript/TypeScript depth to review full-stack designs.
• Experience delivering complex initiatives across multiple teams and applications, managing dependencies, and resolving technical challenges.
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering, coding agents, AI-assisted reviews, testing, documentation, engineering guardrails, and verification.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, observability, SLOs, secure SDLC, cloud-native operations, and a bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
