Staff Engineer, Flight Software (Aerospace)

Location: Preferred Tukwila, Washington, with hybrid office work 1–2 days per week; strong remote candidates may be considered. Due to program requirements, candidates must be U.S.-born citizens and meet applicable U.S. space technology export-control requirements.

Salary: $155,000–$180,000 per year for candidates in Seattle, Washington.

What you will do

• Design and develop flight software for satellite imaging payload and ADCS subsystems.
• Provide technical leadership and subject-matter expertise across critical satellite programs.
• Deliver mission-critical features and bug fixes in collaboration with embedded systems, Satellite Operations, Mission Management, and other engineering teams.
• Support software requirements development, documentation, test planning, inspections, analysis, unit testing, and release processes.
• Drive work to completion in an Agile-like environment using Jira, sprint planning, task management, and technical status meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• At least 10 years of experience delivering and maintaining commercial or embedded software in production environments.
• Expertise in clean, maintainable C/C++ and Python code.
• Expertise in embedded systems, ideally Embedded Linux and related build systems such as Buildroot or Yocto.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and delivering products on time and on budget.
• U.S.-born citizenship and eligibility under applicable U.S. Government space technology export regulations are required.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in a relevant field.
• Board bring-up experience for Embedded Linux platforms and familiarity with U-Boot or other boot loaders.
• Experience with hardware interfaces including GPIO, I2C, SPI, CAN, USART, PHY, SpaceWire, CameraLink, RS-422, 10G Ethernet, DMA, or PCIe.
• Experience with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS.
• Space industry experience and familiarity with satellite components or embedded software for ADCS/GNC.
