Embedded Software Engineer Intern - Summer 2027 (Drones)

Location: Remote in the United States; San Mateo, California

Salary: $47/hour for undergraduate students, $53/hour for graduate students, and $58/hour for PhD students

What you will do

• Develop embedded software and firmware for autonomous drones and accessory product lines.
• Characterize, integrate, and validate subsystems such as cameras, radios, and flight controllers.
• Bring up and debug new hardware and electronics.
• Write interfaces and drivers for sensors, cameras, and other devices.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and software teams on foundational platform capabilities.

Requirements

• Current junior, senior, or MS-level college student with industry experience in device-level embedded software or firmware.
• Practical experience writing firmware or embedded code for physical devices.
• Proficiency with C++ in embedded systems and Python for testing, experimentation, and tools development.
• Ability to write clean code with appropriate abstraction boundaries and investigate complex technical problems.
• Ability to read schematics and use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
• For positions located in the United States, employment eligibility is verified through E-Verify.

Nice to have

• Experience with embedded Linux userspace and kernel development.
• Experience debugging systems at the ARM assembly level.
