Software Engineer - Embedded (RIS)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; hybrid role requiring an average of 2 days per week in an HPE office.

Salary: USD 105,500–213,500 annual base salary in California. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain platform infrastructure software for next-generation HPE routers.
• Develop routing engine redundancy, high-availability features, chassis and line-card operations, fabric interconnects, and optical-module integrations.
• Build diagnostics software that improves router reliability and performance.
• Collaborate with system and solution test teams to deliver reliable products.
• Provide engineering support for critical customer escalations and deployments through the HPE Technical Assistance Center.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 4 years of experience.
• At least 2 years of experience with C programming and 2 years with C++ programming.
• Strong hands-on experience with Linux.
• Experience maintaining and enhancing existing software features.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to work from the Sunnyvale office an average of 2 days per week.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree and object-oriented development experience in C, C++, or Python.
• Exposure to routing and forwarding software.
• Knowledge of optics, PCIe, SPI, I2C, retimers, FPGA, CPLD, MDIO, and flash drivers.
• Experience with device drivers, system bring-up, and FreeBSD or Linux internals.
