Systems Engineer I

Location: Somerville, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid role with onsite work required. Monday–Friday during Eastern business hours. Remote work requires a stable, secure, compliant workstation and Mass General Brigham-provided equipment.

Salary: $62,836.80–$89,762.40 annually

What you will do

• Perform platform administration, including installations, patches, configuration, and backups.
• Monitor platform performance and availability across software, network, hardware, and database environments.
• Follow operating procedures, troubleshoot incidents, and support routine maintenance under senior engineer guidance.
• Maintain system inventories, configuration records, and other technical documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, participate in meetings, and contribute to knowledge sharing.
• Support compliance with security and operational policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 1–3 years of systems engineering or system administration experience.
• Basic knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
• Familiarity with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, data structures, databases, system monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Basic scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
• Strong problem-solving, documentation, and attention-to-detail skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Windows-based website hosting or administration.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and tools.
