Data Engineer

Location: Arlington, Virginia, US; hybrid schedule with 1–2 days on site per month. Candidates should be in the National Capital Region and able to work on site when required by the mission.

Salary: $45.38–$49.64 per hour, depending on experience, education, and clearance level.

hirify.global is expanding a team supporting Department of War Comptroller data and analytics initiatives.

What you will do

• Collect, clean, transform, and validate raw data into reliable, governed datasets.
• Build and maintain analytics pipelines using Python, SQL, R, Databricks, and Spark.
• Apply foundational data mining, machine learning, NLP, and data modeling techniques to structured and unstructured data.
• Visualize trends, interpret results, and communicate findings through dashboards and automated reports.
• Troubleshoot data workflows and support senior data scientists with pipeline stability and data-quality governance.
• Improve data availability, transparency, and decision-making across enterprise systems.

Requirements

• Up to 3 years of directly related experience and a B.A./B.S. degree.
• Up to 3 years of experience using Python, SQL, R, or similar languages for data manipulation, ETL, or analytics workflows.
• Exposure to data-processing platforms such as Databricks or Spark and raw-to-scrubbed data stages.
• Understanding of data mining, machine learning fundamentals, NLP techniques, and data modeling.
• Ability to validate data, identify anomalies, visualize results, and communicate findings.
• Active Secret clearance and availability for hybrid work in Arlington, Virginia.

Nice to have

• Experience with mission-focused analytics platforms and large-scale enterprise datasets.
• Familiarity with audit workflows, financial data environments, and structured or semi-structured data integrations.
• Cross-functional collaboration experience and ability to translate business requirements into analytical or software tasks.
• Experience building lightweight scripts or prototypes for analytical automation and data transformations.
