Lead Electronic Engineer Consultant (Medical Devices)

Location: Cambridge, England, United Kingdom; the role includes work from hirify.global's campus in Melbourn and travel for in-person meetings and client engagements.

What you will do

• Lead electronic engineering across concept generation, feasibility, detailed design, verification, validation, and transfer to manufacture.
• Translate client, clinical, and user needs into engineering requirements and commercially viable solutions for surgical medical technologies.
• Lead small and medium-sized projects or workstreams, owning electronics work packages and balancing technical risk, cost, speed, quality, and regulatory considerations.
• Define system architectures, identify subsystem interactions, and communicate complex engineering topics to teams, clients, and stakeholders.
• Support proposals and business development with technical and commercial insight.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and strengthen multidisciplinary project teams.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of electronic engineering experience in product development, ideally in medical devices, surgical systems, or another highly regulated sector.
• Experience designing complex analogue, digital, power, and high-speed digital electronics schematics and PCB layouts for embedded systems.
• Ability to take complex products or systems from concept through development and transfer to manufacture.
• Strong project management, requirements gathering, planning, prioritisation, stakeholder communication, and delivery skills.
• Commercial judgement covering product value, manufacturability, cost, risk, and client needs.
• Collaborative leadership, clear communication, ownership, adaptability, and willingness to travel for client engagements.

Nice to have

• Awareness of digital electronics, embedded systems, and FPGA development.
• Experience with C and C++ in embedded or hardware-adjacent development environments.
