Data Architect (Fintech)

What you will do

• Define and evolve data strategy, architecture principles, standards, guardrails, and target-state roadmaps.
• Design cloud-native distributed systems using microservices, domain-driven design, event-driven integration, and bounded contexts.
• Design and operate event-streaming platforms such as Kafka and Kinesis, including event contracts, schema evolution, replay, ordering, and fault tolerance.
• Architect operational and analytical data flows across APIs, streaming, CDC, batch, and ETL/ELT while embedding data quality, lineage, security, testing, and observability.
• Work with engineering and product teams in agile environments, making pragmatic architecture decisions and establishing lightweight automation and governance.
• Design secure, resilient cloud data architectures and experiment with AI-assisted tools for research, modelling, coding, testing, and documentation.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in data architecture, data modelling, distributed systems, and technical problem-solving.
• Practical experience with microservices, domain-driven design, eventual consistency, distributed transactions, and data ownership.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, Kinesis, or equivalent event-streaming platforms.
• Experience selecting relational, NoSQL, graph, time-series, distributed SQL, and lakehouse data stores based on technical and business requirements.
• Experience designing secure, governed, observable data architectures for sensitive and regulated data.
• Ability to work from Bristol, London, or remotely within the United Kingdom under the remote/hybrid model.

Nice to have

• Experience in UK wealth management, financial services, fintech, or another complex regulated industry.
• Legacy modernisation experience with Oracle, Sybase, ISAM storage, SFTP and file-based integrations.
• Experience with migration, coexistence, reconciliation, CDC, and progressive decoupling.
